Bio:
Jorge E. Fidhel Gonzalez is the Duke Biology Department Greenhouse Supervisor with more than a decade of
experience in the successful maintenance and management of these Greenhouses (15,000 sq.ft.), shade
structures (4,000 sq. ft.), the field trial plot (1 acre) as well as their supporting facilities. Fidhel,
with his excellent and talented team, maintains the day to day plant growth operations for research
experiments, privately leased space, and the educational teaching Live Plant Collection. Fidhel believes
in persistent work, supporting the educational aspirations of his team as well as creating strong
professional and personal relationships that ensure the success of larger projects like the multi-phase
renovation of the Greenhouses started in 2022. Fidhel, an Agricultural Engineer, graduated fifth in his
class at Universidad Centrooccidental "Lisandro Alvarado," Barquisimeto, Venezuela (VE) in 2001. Fidhel
worked for several years before coming to the United States as an Agricultural Extension Agent in the
State of Lara, VE, where he enjoyed hiking to and from numerous coffee and vegetable farms in mountainous
areas while supporting small farmers. Outside of work, Fidhel still enjoys hiking all over North
Carolina.
