Bio:
Shawna Young joined the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) in July 2016 as its executive director. She leads a team of 76 full-time and 1,200 seasonal staff while also overseeing TIP's renowned summer and academic year programs for gifted students in grades four through twelve. Each year, TIP enrolls nearly 100,000 gifted students in its talent searches and serves over 8,000 students and gifted education teachers through its renowned educational programs. Prior to joining TIP, Shawna served as the executive director of MIT's Office of Engineering Outreach Programs, where she led the OEOP's strategic planning process, fundraising efforts, and the development of programs that provide challenging and engaging outreach opportunities to students in the Boston area as well as nationally. Her other prior experience includes management of the Diversity Initiative at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, online curriculum development at the Educational Development Center, and several years teaching science in North Carolina's public school system. Shawna received a BS in Chemistry from Howard University and an MAT in Science Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Boston University and holds an MBA from MIT Sloan.
