Bio:
As Departmental Business Manager, Crystal provides strategic, operational, and financial oversight for the Thomas Lord Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science (MEMS). Prior to assuming this leadership role, Crystal has held multiple positions of increasing responsibility since coming to Duke in 2011. In addition to supervising staff and daily responsibilities, she is also a member of the Pratt Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community-building Executive Committee DEIC), Co-chair of the Pratt Staff-Postdoc Subcommittee, a member of the MEMS DEIC Committee, and a member of the Pratt Engineering Operations Council. Crystal has over 20 years of experience in the areas of research administration, finance, and management.
Prior to coming to Duke, Crystal was a Project Coordinator for the Center for Public Safety Innovation at St. Petersburg College in Florida, where she coordinated counterdrug training courses from conception through delivery to law enforcement officers throughout the United States and its territories.
Crystal graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Business Management and holds several Duke certifications in the areas of finance, research administration, and human resources. Although a native of North Carolina, Crystal lived many years in New Jersey and Florida. She and her husband, Conell Chapman, moved to the triangle area in 2011, and have three adult children.
