Bio:
Alonzo Jaynes brings more than 27 years of law enforcement experience to the Duke University Police Department. Additionally, he has served in a leadership position since 1999. As Assistant Chief, he is responsible for the management of DUPD's Emergency Communications Center, Special Events, Patrol and Campus Operations Divisions. Prior to joining DUPD, Jaynes was the Basic Law Enforcement & Training Director for Vance-Granville Community College. He also served as Police Chief for the City of Kinston (2014-2016), Assistant Police Chief for the Town of Chapel Hill (2014-2016), and Police Captain for the City of Durham (1995-2013). Jaynes worked nine years in the Uniform Patrol Division, nine years in the Criminal Investigation Division and two years in the Internal Affairs Unit.

Assistant Chief Jaynes holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Pfeiffer University and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in Business Administration and Organizational Development from Mount Olive University. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University's Police Staff and Command Program, as well as West Point's Leadership Program.
