Bio:
Bernice Alston joined the School of Nursing as the inaugural Director of the Student Success Center in September 2021. Her team provides learning consultations, tutoring services, career coaching, oversight of student clubs and organizations, general wellness support, and oversees sustainment of the Stress First Aid training program. She also serves as the school's Disability Services Liaison. Bernice has over 10 years of experience in postsecondary student success and retention. Prior to joining Duke University, Bernice was the Director of Academic Support Services at Campbell University where she was responsible for leading all undergraduate academic services such as tutoring and writing centers, supplemental instruction, and academic coaching, managing and relaunching a campus-wide early alert system to address student academic and wellness concerns, and facilitating academic recovery seminar courses. Bernice earned a BA in Mass Communication from North Carolina Central University, MA in Organizational Communication from Bowie State University, and a PhD in Higher Education from Morgan State University. During her free time, she enjoys photography, traveling, and cycling.
