Bio:
Pete Balbirnie is a CPA with more than 35 years of experience in finance and operations and has served as Duke's director of Endowment Administration for the past 15 years. In this role, Pete supports all the development units with the agreements for endowments and is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on all the accounts in the university's $14 billion Long Term Pool. Pete began his career with the CPA firm, KPMG Peat Marwick in Baltimore and spent 12 years in the wine industry, beginning as controller and moving into the vice president and general manager role for a bi-coastal vineyard and winery operation. He has also served on the board of the Cure of Ars Foundation for the past 17 years. Pete has a BS in Accounting from Virginia Tech and an MA in Theology and Christian Ministry from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
