Occupational Summary

Installs rigging, lighting, sound equipment, and scenery for theatrical, musical, and other entertainment events in theaters and other event spaces. In consultation with supervisor and renter, determine type and location of lighting, sound, sets, props and scenery required for specific events.

Work Performed

Operate lighting, sound, video and stage equipment duringevents, rehearsals and performances, following audio or visual cues.

Confer with other staff members and with clients to ensure the correct provision of technical services for events. Monitor and track equipment usage for each event to ensure accurate event billing.

Coordinate and direct the work of student and other contracted workers; assist in the training of new personnel; supervise and coordinate the efforts of student organizations.

Program and maintain computerized and digital lighting and sound equipment.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a thorough background in theatre normally acquired through a four year course study of Theatre or closely related field.
