Occupational Summary

Procure, maintain and assemble materials and specimens for laboratory course work; set up laboratory with required supplies.

Work Performed

Prepare course materials and set up laboratory with required instructional materials and supplies.

Procure and maintain required quantities of equipment and materials for laboratory course work; check and issue microscopes to students. Collect and preserve specimen for class use; prepare laboratory models, kits, displays and exhibits; prepare special solutions as required.

Provide technical guidance, instruction and consultation to students and staff members as required.

Confer with faculty members and review class schedules to determine laboratory requirements for supplies and materials. Maintain inventory of stock items; order replacements as required.

Supervise personnel engaged in the receipt, verification, storage, issuance and maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used for laboratory coursework.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions and vacation schedules; train new personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires an educational background generally equivalent to two years of college course work in chemistry or related science field.

Experience

Work requires three years related experience to acquire skills and knowledge to procure, set-up and maintain supplies and materials used in laboratory course work.

A bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological sciences which is directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education/training and experience requirement.

A bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological sciences which is not directly related to the specific position plus one year of related experience may be substituted for the education/training and experience requirements.
