Occupational Summary

Coordinate the planning, execution, completion, and inspection of designated construction and renovation projects involving Duke University buildings and facilities; provide technical guidance and consultation in the review of structural plans and resolve special construction problems.

Work Performed

Coordinate and monitor the execution, completion and inspection of special maintenance, replacement, upgrading, and renovation projects of Duke University buildings and plant facilities to include cost estimation and requisitioning of specialized equipment.

Review and coordinate structural plans with architectural plans, specifications and equipment for new construction and renovations; inspect projects during and following construction and advise as to compliance with specifications prior to University acceptance.

Maintain liaison between members of the University community, contractors and the Facilities Planning and Management Department to secure and transmit information concerning cost and progress of University renovation projects.

Coordinate resolution of special construction problems; assist in the establishment of University standards to provide guidelines for future project planning, design and construction.

Establish preventive maintenance programs for buildings, facilities and equipment of the University.

Coordinate with Facilities Planning and Management personnel and outside contractors on construction and renovation projects.

Monitor, examine and verify expenditure of funds to established project budgets.

Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field related to construction (e.g. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) and eligibility for North Carolina licensure as an Engineer.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of three years experience in design, planning, evaluation and project management related to new construction and renovation of buildings and/or systems.
