Occupational Summary

Provide support for a computer facility to include participating in planning for facility expansion and upgrades, authorizing hardware and software support contracts, researching appropriate equipment, obtaining vendor quotes, negotiating contractual agreements with vendors to ensure procurement of high quality merchandise at optimum cost, and managing equipment inventory.

Work Performed

Provide support and maintenance for departmental computing facilities to include authorizing hardware and software support contracts within guidelines and departmental Chair, researching appropriate equipment, and implementing purchases and sales of equipment; establish and maintain contact with vendors concerning hardware capabilities, acquiring and maintaining current sales literature and negotiating contractual agreements to ensure procurement of high quality merchandise at optimum cost.

Serve as departmental liaison with representatives of other university computing and professional organizations to ensure successful interpretation and development of resources.

Provide cost estimates and quotations to faculty for computing equipment included in grant proposals. Supervise maintenance of daily inventory of supplies and materials and supply acquisition.

Set up and maintain departmental computing environment and network. Develop and provide user support for operating systems and programs.

Maintain accurate and current records on installation, removal and repair of equipment; identify and contact internal or external service organizations to effect repairs of hardware malfunctions.

Manage equipment inventory to include ensuring maintenance of accurate records of all departmental equipment, supervising the maintenance of inventory of equipment checked out to faculty and staff, and authorizing the use of equipment inside and outside of the department.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a general educational background normally equivalent to a bachelors degree.

Experience

Requires 2 years relevant experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
