Occupational Summary

Work together with faculty and academic leadership in the creation of long range plans for Bass Connections to ensure achievement of objectives related to purposes and goals of the program. Work closely with the Bass Connections Advisory Council.

Work Performed

Provide and develop systems that solicit and support student and faculty participation in Bass Connections, including new faculty recruitments.

Review memoranda of understanding and work with administrators in the tenure home and other participating units to ensure highly efficient, coordinated, and successful recruitment efforts.

Collaborate with existing internal and external partnerships and programs to develop or highlight opportunities for involvement in Bass Connections.

Develop new internal and external partnerships and programs.

Work closely with faculty and academic leadership to interpret needs for Bass Connections Programs and develop course and program proposals and support materials.

Shepherd and support the progress of program and course proposals through the Duke faculty governance system.

Provide administrative direction and coordination for current and long range policies, procedures and programs for Bass Connections.

Work together with the Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies on the conceptual development and strategic planning of Bass Connections activities; oversee implementation of these plans.

Oversee development of robust evaluation and assessment program for Bass Connections.

Support faculty in the development of appropriate educational and assessment processes and innovative methods of teaching and assessments for Bass Connections programs.

Direct communications efforts to ensure that Bass Connections, its mission, events and achievements are appropriately communicated to various audiences; develop and maintain relationships with Duke public relations offices and other relevant offices to coordinate dissemination of relevant information.

Direct the development of mechanisms to distribute funding for elements of Bass Connections.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Provide leadership to staff who are hired as part of Bass Connections (e.g., communications, evaluation).

Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, and transfers.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Master's degree program.

Experience

Seven to ten years of experience in higher education program management or administration.
