Occupational Summary
The Senior Quad Advisor is a professional academic advisor who provides comprehensive, developmental advising to first- and second-year students in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Assigned to two residential quads, the Senior Quad Advisor serves as a primary point of contact for students navigating course selection, degree planning, and academic transitions. This role also supervises two Quad Advisors and contributes to the overall strategic development and delivery of the advising model within the quad structure. The position entails direct student advising, quad-based program development, collaboration with faculty advisors, and training and mentorship of advising staff.
Work Performed
Academic Advising and Student Support
Advise first- and second-year students on course selection, Trinity curriculum requirements, and major exploration.
Assist students in understanding academic policies, degree timelines, grading options (e.g., S/U, W), and related institutional regulations.
Monitor academic progress and maintain detailed, confidential advising records.
Guide students through moments of academic transition or difficulty, referring to relevant campus resources (e.g., deans, academic support, counseling services, identity centers).
Provide inclusive, developmentally appropriate support that considers the needs of diverse student populations.
Support students in identifying academic goals, navigating institutional resources, and developing decision-making skills.
Serve as a knowledgeable resource on college policies, deadlines, and opportunities, including research, global education, and pre- professional preparation.
Maintain accurate and timely advising records and monitor student progress.
Supervision and Staff Development
Supervise and mentor one to two Quad Advisors, including support for professional development and performance feedback.
Train new advising staff and provide guidance on complex advising issues.
Professional Development and Administrative Duties
Contribute to assessment and continuous improvement of the advising structure and student support systems.
May coordinate projects across quads or serve on university committees. Participate in professional development activities and advising-related training.
Contribute to assessment efforts, including surveys and feedback collection.
Stay informed about updates to university policies, academic programs, and student support initiatives.
Institutional Collaboration and Coordination
Work collaboratively with Academic Deans, Advising Leadership, Quad Advisors, and campus offices (e.g., Global Education, Career Center, Student Affairs) to coordinate advising and support.
Participate in regular team meetings and cross-functional training to ensure consistent, high-quality advising services.
Share insights and trends with advising leadership to inform continuous improvement of the advising model.
Collaborate with faculty advisors and campus partners to support holistic student development.
Work with partners to uphold academic policies related to S/U, W, and course load petitions.
Quad-Based Engagement and Academic Programming
Develop and support quad-based programming aligned with the first- and second-year student experience, including orientation sessions, academic workshops, and community-building events.
Collaborate with faculty-in-residence, peer mentors, and faculty fellows to create programming aligned with quad themes and goals.
May teach a 1-credit course as part of the first-year experience or related advising-based curriculum.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Masters degree required; Ph.D. preferred.
Experience
Minimum five years of professional experience in academic advising or a related educational setting, with demonstrated familiarity with undergraduate academic policies and programs.
