Occupational Summary

This role reflects Duke's commitment to and strategic investment to educational and workforce collaborations. The position reports to the Vice President for Durham and Community Affairs and is an instrumental member of the senior leadership team, dedicated to forging purposeful partnerships with our neighbors in the region.

The role involves collaboration with key Duke and community-based partners to advance collective interests. The position will establish a vision and implement strategic objectives to support the institution's community affairs endeavors. The role will provide strategic direction for community partnerships and serve as a champion for community collaboration.

Work Performed

Providing strategic, tactical and operational advice to the Vice President on all aspects of the development of educational and workforce collaborations.

Coordinate with Durham Public Schools and other educational partners to support programs within the neighborhood zone and other investments to support under-resourced populations.

Facilitate innovative partnerships within Duke and the community to support the workforce, with a particular emphasis on developing young adults and underrepresented populations preparation for and opportunities for in-demand fields.

Develop and implement impactful work experience opportunities and activities to support interest in public service to include overseeing Duke College Advising Corps.

Strengthen relations and partnerships with organizations involved in education and workforce development.

Recommend organizational structures, personnel, and resources to ensure a partnership environment at all levels.

Direct various personnel functions, including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Determine fiscal requirements of the education and workforce collaborations programs and prepare budgetary recommendations; prepare grant proposals and meet with potential donors as necessary.

Prepare reports and presentations for various constituents outlining the impact of university-community partnerships.

Supervise team of four to include three coordinators and a staff assistant.

Represent the Vice President and as appropriate.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program. Master's degree required or Doctoral Terminal degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum of five years of applicable experience required.
